POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Workday Integrations Engineering & Architecture is a senior technical leader within the Workday Center of Excellence (COE), responsible for leading a team of integration developers who design, build, and maintain secure, scalable data bridges between Workday and third-party systems. This role is the primary technical authority for all Workday integration patterns and the Workday Extend framework, ensuring that enterprise-grade automation and custom applications are delivered with the highest standards of quality, security, and performance.

This leader bridges the gap between technical execution and business strategy — translating complex business requirements into robust integration architectures while fostering strong partnerships with Enterprise Architecture, Application Engineering, and functional business teams. The Manager holds a critical Workday-specific designation as Workday Integrations Lead, serving as the primary liaison with Workday for integration platform support, roadmap alignment, and escalations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Workday integration and Extend engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Manage workload prioritization / planning and resource allocation across concurrent integration projects, enhancements, maintenance and support activities.

  • Provide technical direction and architectural oversight to the integration development team, setting standards and creating common practices.

Architecture & Technical Design

  • Establish and govern architecture standards, patterns, and best practices across the Workday ecosystem for integration development and Workday Extend solutions.

  • Lead the creation of Technical Design Specifications, mapping documents, and data transformation logic for all inbound and outbound integrations.

  • Translate business requirements from functional and operational stakeholders into detailed technical specifications covering data mapping, transformation rules, and security configurations.

  • Partner with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure integration designs align with organizational technology strategy, scalability requirements, and security policies.

  • Evaluate and recommend the appropriate integration pattern for each use case — balancing simplicity, maintainability, and performance across Workday’s toolset.

  • Collaborate closely with the Workday Technical Account Manager (TAM) — escalating critical issues, advocating product roadmap priorities, and ensuring the organization maximizes value from its Workday investment.

Development & Configuration

  • Oversee and actively guide the development and deployment of integrations using the full Workday toolset:

  • Workday Studio (complex, multi-step integrations with advanced transformation logic)

  • Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) for high-volume inbound/outbound flat-file integrations

  • Core Connectors for standardized, pre-built integration patterns (Payroll, Benefits, HCM)

  • Workday REST and SOAP APIs for real-time, event-driven integration patterns

  • Workday Orchestrate for complex, multi-system workflow automation

  • Document Transformation for format conversion and data shaping.

  • Lead the design and development of custom Workday Extend applications and user interfaces (UI), extending Workday’s native capabilities to meet unique business needs.

  • Enforce protocol and file transmission standards (SFTP, PGP encryption, AS2, REST/HTTPS, OAuth 2.0) across all integration touchpoints.

  • Champion DevSecOps best practices within the integration lifecycle, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, peer code review, and secure credential management.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Own end-to-end Workday Integration testing, including bi-annual Workday feature release readiness: impact assessment, and feature evaluation.

  • Define and enforce integration testing standards, including unit testing frameworks, smoke testing protocols, and regression test suites for all integration changes.

  • Ensure test coverage across data validation, error handling, edge cases, and security scenarios prior to promotion to production.

  • Comply with release management sign-off gates and change management procedures to safeguard production environment stability.

System Maintenance, Support & Monitoring

  • Own the overall health, reliability, and performance of the Workday integration ecosystem, including SLA adherence for business-critical integrations.

  • Develop and maintain integration monitoring dashboards and alerting frameworks to proactively detect, diagnose, and resolve failures before business impact occurs.

  • Lead root cause analysis and post-incident reviews for integration failures, translating findings into permanent remediation and process improvements.

  • Manage the end-to-end relationship with third-party and integrated system teams, coordinating API changes, deprecations, and compatibility updates.

  • Oversee integration impact assessments for Workday bi-annual feature releases, ensuring timely regression testing and readiness.

  • Collaborate closely with the Workday Technical Account Manager (TAM) — engaging regularly to review Integration stability and performance and create action plans for issues / risks.

Data Security & Governance

  • Ensure all integrations adhere to enterprise data security policies, regulatory requirements, audit logging and Workday security governance standards within the integration layer.

  • Lead or contribute to data conversion and migration efforts, ensuring data integrity, transformation accuracy, and reconciliation validation.

  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and integration partners on security assessments, data sharing agreements, and compliance validation.
